"Home Away From Hell" (also called "Home Away From Heck") is the eleventh episode of HFIL.

Tagline[]

Welcome…to BETA HFIL.

Plot Summary[]

Cell and Raditz travel to the other HFIL, "Neighborhood Beta", alongside King Cold, Cooler, and Bojack. There, they meet Saike, the ogre in charge of Neighborhood Beta. Psych gives Cell and Raditz a tour of the neighborhood. They stop by Bojack's pirate ship and Cell questions why there is a second pirate ship, from which Zangya emerges, angry at Bojack, and the two pirates begin firing their cannons at each others' ships.

While visiting the park, they find Lord Slug, who has become obsessed with fitness to prevent himself from aging (despite the fact they can't age). They are then shown the Amphitheatre where Cooler's Armored Squadron is preparing for a performance of Skygina 2, with Sauza acting as the high-strung director, Neiz playing Kochin and Dore playing Dr. Wheelo. While there, Raditz spots Turles, believing him to be Goku. When Raditz refers to Turles as Kakarot, Broly appears, freaking out over the use of the name.

The final stop of the tour is a factory that produces the handrails to go on Snake Way. While at the factory, they notice a door with a sign that says "No Ogres Allowed". That night, Raditz attempts to sneak out but bumps into Cell, who was being kept awake by Bojack's snoring. Raditz is curious about what was behind the door in the factory, and Cell agrees to come along.

As they pass the houses, they spot the CAS enjoying Sauza's cooking, Lord Slug continuing to work out to defy the aging process (that Cell even points out can't happen), Turles and Broly watching the Juan Sanchez cut of Skygina 2 - though Broly hears something and believes Neiz is spying on him again, while Cell finally realizes that Raditz is Goku's brother - and King Cold and Cooler having an argument.

When they finally make it to the factory, Raditz picks the lock to the secret door and they find a file for a project called "Operation: Cold Feet". King Cold catches them and tells them that the file contains secret plans for the Hell Games. When they return to Bojack's ship, Raditz reveals that he has stolen the file. Cell and Raditz look through it and find that it contains information on everyone in HFIL.

In a post-credits scene, Turles and Broly continue watching Skygina 2 while Neiz spies on them.

Running Gags and Callbacks[]

  • The dodgeballs being referred to as "Volkerballs" is a callback to Sharing Circles of Hell and DodgeBall Z.
  • The Ginyu Force's fondness for Shasta is mentioned again as their backyard is apparently littered with Shasta cans.
  • Lord Slug's similarities to Piccolo are once again brought up as upon seeing Slug, Raditz asks if it's the guy who killed him.
  • People replacing the word "Hell" with "here" when Lord Slug says "Here if I know", and Raditz telling Cell to "Shut the here up".
  • "Skygina 2", which Cooler's Armored Squadron is preparing for a stage version of, was first brought up in Opening Serumonies* as a film starring Mr. Satan. It is the sequel to Skygina, the movie Krillin pitched to Nappa in DragonBall Z Abridged Movie: Dead Zone, and covers the events of DragonBall Z Abridged Movie: The World's Strongest.
    • This also acts as a callback to the running gag that HFIL only allows bad sequels.
    • Raditz refers to Krillin by his pseudonym, Juan Sanchez.
    • As revealed in the Dead Zone end credits, Raditz mentions that the movie bombed and that "Juan Sanchez" was stricken from the credits.
  • While Cooler's Armored Squadron are arguing about their play, Dore can be heard telling Neiz, "You're thinking of baking!", to which Neiz responds with a garbled "I might be thinking of baking". This calls back to an exchange between Dr. Wheelo and Kochin in the World's Strongest movie, after Kochin asserts that "brain surgery is a little more art than science".
  • Turles looking the same as Goku and Broly's PTSD from the Saiyan name "Kakarot" is brought up again.
  • Raditz is pleased to hear that Snake Way is finally getting handrails, another callback to Sharing Circles of Hell.
  • "Space" being put at the start of everything, though Raditz calls them "Spacelometers".
  • The chore wheel makes its return, with the point of it again being brought into question.
  • Just like Goku did, Cell points out the Lord Slug has an enormous chin.
  • Raditz and Dodoria's relationship is brought up again, and King Cold knows about it.

Cultural References[]

  • "Unalive" has become a euphemism for the word "kill", largely due to strict enforcements on social media.
  • Skygina 2 having a "Sanchez cut" that Broly insists is better is likely a reference to the Director's Cut of the 2017 Justice League film.
  • Curious George is a fictional monkey, hence Cold's use of the term to describe Raditz being called racist by Cell.

Trivia[]

  • As the car drives past Snake Way, King Kai's destroyed planet can be seen in the background.
  • This episode uses an alternate version of the HFIL intro.
  • Cell questions if Lord Slug knows Super Kami Guru. In DragonBall Z Abridged Movie: Lord Slug, it is revealed that Slug is the banished good half of Guru.
  • Raditz reveals that Gohan's attack in "And They All Lived Happily Ever... Oh..." broke five of his ribs.
  • Remix is credited under his real name, Joshua Gotay. However, in the early access version on Patreon, his first name is misspelled as "Josnua".
  • Due to Antfish being unavailable, Sauza is now voiced by Tom Schalk and Mr. Satan is now voiced by Gianni Matragrano.
    • Likewise, MasakoX now voices Turles in place of his original voice actor, Hbi2k, following his departure from the group in 2019. Like Goku, Turles is voiced by Masako Nozawa.
