"Insecurity System" is the ninth episode of HFIL.

Tagline[]

Cell and Freeza duke it out with CQC (close quarters conversation)!

Plot Summary[]

Following the events of the previous episode, Freeza goes to Cell's house to investigate the actions of his father, King Cold. Freeza finds the door to the garage locked. Cell confronts Freeza and lets him in to prove Cold isn't there. Despite not finding him, Freeza is insistent that his father is hiding somewhere. While Cell derides Freeza for his delusion, he accidentally opens a hidden control panel in the power breaker. Freeza attempts to use a code, insisting that the code must be his birthday, and as a result, locks the garage down completely.

After failing to figure out the correct code, Freeza and Cell resign themselves to waiting for morning for Goz and Mez to release them, with Freeza insisting they sit in silence, though he becomes infuriated with Super Kami Guru's snoring. Freeza and Cell attempt to make small talk but it quickly turns into an argument with Freeza insistent that he will one day take over and then escape Hell, while Cell calls Freeza out on his delusions that he still holds any real authority in the afterlife, insisting that one day Freeza's men will realize his lack of power and turn on him. Cell also tells Freeza that if he ever were to come back to life, he would find even more of a challenge as the Saiyans on Earth have reached a level beyond Super Saiyan.

Freeza finally asks what Cell and Cold were talking about in the previous episode and finds himself disappointed to learn that all they were talking about was the Die Hard movies. Cell then asks what the deal is between Freeza and his father and learns that Freeza was only the galactic emperor because King Cold made it so. Upon Frieza dismissing his critiques of his relationship with his father by insulting his lack of a real father, Cell calmly stops arguing and goes to sleep, leaving Frieza to endure Guru’s snores.

In the morning, King Cold, Goz, and Mez all come to free Cell and Freeza, announcing that they have a special announcement for after the credits. Cold reveals that the reason he had been out the night before was that he was on guard duty, due to several people sneaking out after curfew, and reveals that the alarm system was installed after Guru got tipped in Home For Infinite Pranksters. As everyone else leaves towards the arena, King Cold stays behind claiming it's to reset Guru's security system, however he types a code into the keypad that displays a Red Ribbon Army logo.

In the post-credit scene, the residents of HFIL stand in front of the arena built by the Ginyu Force in the previous episode. King Cold announces that before the Other World tournament takes place, another tournament will be held; The Hell Games. However, Cold announces that rather than being pitted against each other, the Hell Games will be team-based competitions against the members of all other HFILs. Freeza realizes who must be a part of the tournament, and Cooler is revealed. His air of menace is then taken away by Bojack.

Running Gags and Callbacks[]

  • Freeza flubs Cell's running joke of replacing "hell" with "here", asking "What the here are you doing hell?", which Cell calls him out on.
    • Cell later uses it correctly when he tells Freeza he'll have "a here of an uphill battle".
  • Freeza believing Cold was hiding inside Guru's stomach is a callback to Frognapped! in which Cell hid Captain Ginyu inside of Guru's stomach.
  • Freeza referring to Super Saiyan 2 as "Super Duper Saiyan" is a callback to Goku calling it that in Cell-Out.
  • Burter notes that it took them 18 hours to build the arena. In the previous episode, the Ginyu Force were given 24 hours to build the arena, with Burter incorrectly stating they would get it done in half the time. Thankfully, Jeice covered with "give or take the other half of the time".

Cultural References[]

  • Caddyshack II and the Die Hard movies are once again referenced, a callback to the previous episode where it was revealed that the only DVDs in HFIL are bad sequels.
  • Cell questions if he can sue for copyrigjt infringement in hell, to which Raditz nonchalantly says "there are enough lawyers". The is a callback from the Family Guy episode "A Picture's Worth a Thousand Bucks".

Cast & Crew[]

Trivia[]

  • This is the first episode of HFIL to not feature Zarbon in any capacity. While Recoome appears, he has no lines in the episode.
  • Freeza's birthday is revealed to be the start of the Galactic Calendar.
  • Freeza refers to the letter Z as "Zed", frequently used by European dialects.
  • Freeza guessing passcodes from "0001" and increasing the number by one each time may be a reference to an episode of LittleKuriboh's Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series in which Marik's evil alter-ego, Melvin, must guess the code to a locked door. After guessing the words "Stab", "Kill", and "Pain" (and having attempted the word "Mutilate", though there weren't enough spaces), Melvin ultimately begins guessing numbers, increasing the number by one each time, finally guessing the correct passcode of "9999".
  • Due to General-Ivan being unavailable, Cooler is voiced by Connor McKinley, making this the second time the character has been recast.
    • This is also Cooler's first appearance in 3D.
  • This is Bojack's first physical appearance in a Team Four Star production, having only appeared as a disembodied voice during Dragon Ball Z Abridged. His movie was originally planned to be Abridged during the show's run, before being ultimately cancelled in the time leading up to the series cancellation as a whole.
