Jynx, known in Japan as Rougela (ルージュラ Rūjura) is a dual type Ice/Psychic type Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise, who serves as Mr. Popo's girlfriend.

It evolves from Smoochum starting at level 30.

Jynx is a bipedal, humanoid Pokémon that resembles a woman. Jynx wears a red gown that hides its feet and has white arms with purple hands. There are golden circles on the chest area of its gown. Jynx has a black face, pink lips, saucer-like eyes, and long blonde hair.

Jynx has a language that sounds similar to human speech and includes several cry patterns. However, this language has yet to be deciphered. It prefers to communicate by using dance-like movements. These rhythmic movements often cause people to dance along with it. It puts its enemies to sleep using its signature move, Lovely Kiss. Jynx often is found in urban areas.

Jynx appears to be a gentle young Pokémon who apparently can't handle pain. She is extremely sensitive when it comes to things in the bedroom and when experiencing something that she doesn't like she will often try to escape or beg for it to stop.

Despite this, according to Mr. Popo, Jynx secretly loves the abuse he puts her through, suggesting she may have a masochistic side to her, which she herself may not entirely be aware of. It should be noted, however, that Mr. Popo's insanity occasionally induces him to make conclusions that only make sense to him, hence this might not necessarily be the case.

Jynx's current design.

  • Jynx's inclusion into the series is a reference due to a controversy centering around Mr. Popo's appearance. On May 4, 2000, an article written by children's book author Carole Boston Weatherford claimed that Mr. Popo, along with Jynx, were derogatory stereotypes because of their black skin, big lips, and for Mr. Popo, lack of teeth.
    • Since 2004, Jynx has been recolored from black to purple. As a reference to purple discoloration of the skin, a common symptom of frostbite. This fits with Jynx's Ice type and how it is found in very cold places.
  • In recent years, some Pokémon fans noted that Jynx may be inspired by the Japanese fashion Ganguro. Another theory is that Jynx is based on the Nordic goddess Hel, who was often depicted has having a face half white-half black and who ruled Niflheim, primarily depicted as a land of primordial ice and cold. Some fans say this is supported by Jynx sharing traits with the iconic opera singing "Fat Lady," who is pop-culturally portrayed dressed as the valkyrie Brünnhilde. Another possible origin is Yama-uba, the mountain Crone.
    • However, Jynx's design was based on Yama-uba (also called Yamanba), a yōkai which is described as always wearing a tattered red kimono, having whitish-blonde hair, control over snow, dark-colored skin, and large lips, traits which are evident in Jynx.
